Jan Staël von Holstein's exhibition — An Original Copy — took place in Shanghai on the 17th May 2019. The show presented a series of paintings commissioned by Jan that are forgeries of famous works by famous Chinese artists. The only difference being having his own face painted in place of the original. The work shown here demonstrates a series of imitations with a unique twist placed within.

This catalogue embodies the experience of the exhibition by providing a Western interpretation of traditional Chinese approaches to layout, typesetting and binding. The book itself is therefore an art object transforming a culturally familiar style into an enticing reading experience.
